This year's Open Week tournament at Pembroke Dock Bowling Club, organised by Mr. Graham Bann and Mr. David Burns, was blessed with very good weather which was enjoyed by all bowlers and spectators alike. The club has always put on a superb Open Week, with not only its wonderful hospitality, but with its catering, which is second to none within the bowling fraternity. This was borne out by the fantastic support received by all finalists on finals day from the many spectators present. This was the 63rd consecutive Open Week held by the club, with the first commencing in June 1945. The two main cups are the Alfred Phillips Bowl and the Sudbury Bowl. The Texaco Shield comes into play later on in the week for competitors who have been knocked out of the main events. There was some exceptional bowling from the entrants, who all thought the green ran superbly, and thanks must go to greens staff for the sterling work put in to make the week such a success. In the final of the Sudbury Bowl, Barrie Absalom, of Haverfordwest BC, beat Simon Evans, of Tenby BC, 21-15. In the final of the Alfred Phillips Bowl, Leslie Davies, of Pembroke Dock BC, beat Nigel Davies, of Whitland BC, 21-19. In the final of the Texaco Shield, Brian Dowling, of Pembroke Dock BC, beat Eric Dezille, of Pembroke Dock BC, 21-8. After the main presentations to the winners and runners-up in the competitions, a sit-down buffet was held in the clubhouse, along with raffle with a grand total of 67 prizes (passing last year's total of 63 prizes) - all donated by various members and non members of Pembroke Dock Bowling Club.
