The 13th annual 36-hole Ladies' Open Amateur Scratch Competition took place at Tenby on Sunday. For the first time we were not beset by gales, torrential rain, floods or fog, in fact after a very little drizzle it became warm, sunny and calm and in consequence both golfers and spectators had an enjoyable day. The scoring by most competitors was therefore of a high standard and there will be a number of handicap reductions. The committee is most grateful for all the help they received from the management committee, the office staff the professional, the greens staff and the catering staff for making running such a meeting so easy. Without a sponsor, this important event for furthering the development of, particularly, junior women's golf would not be viable and we are especially grateful to Stephen Davies, of Imperial Garages, Haverfordwest, who sponsored this event for the first time. Inevitably problems arise with running any event, but we think we glided along like swans, paddling like mad, but our local pens and cobs came to our rescue - they will know who they are! Finally, certainly a first for this competition, the course was invaded by sheep, well only four of them, and you will be glad to know that the committee refrained from singing 'Sheep may safely graze'!
