The sun shone down on Pembroke Dock’s first skateboard competition last weekend. Despite early rain, local skaters were on hand to dry the ramp in time for the competition kick off.
The event was organised by local skater and photographer, Owen Howells, with support from Pembroke Dock Town Council, to kick off the town’s annual Midsummer Festival. The event proved popular with skateboarders and spectators alike, and the day had a great community feel.
Leon Lewis took the first prize in the mini-ramp competition for U16s, with Jack Steele taking first prize in the open mini ramp competition. Jack Steele also claimed the prize for the best trick ‘jam’ to finish off the event.
Underground Surf Tenby provided a number of great prizes for the event, with Oakwood Theme Park passes also part of the prizes in each category.
Judge Craig Brown said after the event: “Well done Owen Howells and Pembroke Dock Town Council for holding the first ever skate competition in the town. Some serious skateboarding went down today!”
Local skateboarders are now planning to repeat the event annually, and are considering options for new equipment in the park. If you would like to get involved with planning and funding new equipment, please contact [email protected]
