Pembrokeshire Libraries are looking for volunteers to help with the promotion and delivery of this year’s summer reading challenge which will take place in libraries.

The theme of this year’s challenge is Roald Dahl - so if you would like to help introduce children to the enjoyment of reading, and characters like the ghastly Twits or the wicked Witches, this could be a fun volunteer role for you.

Volunteers are currently being sought to help prepare and deliver story and activity sessions at Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Milford Haven Libraries.

Sessions will be happening once a week at each of these locations on Wednesday afternoons during the summer holidays.

“We are also looking for volunteers to visit local schools to help promote the challenge in assemblies towards the end of the summer term,” said Clr. Elwyn Morse, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure.

“We need volunteer speakers in all the areas where we have libraries, particularly in Pembroke Dock, Tenby, Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Milford Haven.

“Our speakers need to be enthusiastic people who are ready to help children to reach their reading potential and have fun.”

For both of the above roles, full training will be provided and the county council will also arrange the required checks.

For further enquiries about either of the two volunteer roles above, please contact [email protected] or ’phone (01437) 776126 as soon as possible.
