Haverfordwest Ladies Choir continued their summer programme with a lunchtime concert at St. Mary’s Church, Haverfordwest, on Friday, where all funds raised go to the upkeep of the church.

The choir’s guest artist for this concert was the talented violinist Madi Phillips who played four pieces, Madi was accompanied by her aunt Helen Danzey on the piano. Keeping things in the family in the audience was choir member Beryl’s grandson nine-month-old Logan and the choir’s youngest supporter three-month-old Harry son of soprano Katheryn Page.

As usual, the programme was filled with some old favourites and some new pieces which are becoming firm favourites, including ‘seasons’ which was accompanied on the oboe by choir member Emma Halls ‘The Seal Lullaby’ and ‘Let’s fall in love’ a tribute to Cole Porter, finishing with a rousing ‘Hallelujah get happy/Oh happy day.’

Soloists for this concert were Carol Mayhew, Frances Oates, Rose Goodall and making her debut as a soloist Charlotte Edwards who led on the ‘Rose,’ another choir favourite.

The choir were conducted by musical director Dr. Nancy Mann and accompanist Gerry Nicholas who was celebrating a birthday on Sunday so the ladies and the audience sang ’Happy Birthday to him. Gerry wasn’t revealing which birthday!

Following the concert, all were invited to stay for tea and biscuits.

The choir were meeting again yesterday (Thursday), but not for their usual practice they will be gathering on St. Thomas Green to board the bus for their Coventry tour.
