Tenby Youth Club has had a very busy summer this year, with activities starting from day one of the summer holidays.

There was opportunity for young people from Tenby to take part in a four-day Surfing and Environmental project. This project was started by Pembroke Dock Youth Club by gaining funding for their youth club through Communities First, with the help of Garry Gabbitas.

Thanks are also extended to Dean and Emma and all their staff at Outer Reef Surf School and Snakatak at Freshwater West, who were all involved in the project. Either Dean or Emma spent each of the four days with the group to conduct a two-hour beach clean, with special attention drawn to needles and other sharp objects which are discarded on our beaches with other unpleasant and dangerous effects to marine and other wildlife. At the end of the four days surfing, each individual was observed and congratulated on passing their Stage One Surfing Certificate and were presented with a bag of goodies from Dean and Emma and most sought-after Outer Reef hoodies which were greatly received by all.

Paul and Sue, of Snakatak, each day provided hot drinks and ice cream, which were also gratefully accepted.

Week two of the summer holidays was taken up by Pembrokeshire Youth Week, with five days of different activities.

Wednesday was a trip to Bristol Zoo, which was attended by around 40 young people from Pembrokeshire (£10). The other four days consisted of an Activity Day at Scolton Manor, Arts Day at Haverfordwest Youth Centre in the morning, followed by the second half at Neyland Youth Centre.

A day at Morfa Bay was the third and a very muddy and exhilarating day that was, with the last day being a relaxing day with a barbecue and games at Stackpole. Each of the four days was only at a cost of £3/day and a total of £20 for the week.

Week three of the summer holidays saw the start of a DOE week for a group of young people from Pembroke Dock Youth Centres. As part of their expedition, they chose to canoe from Haverfordwest to Neyland, with their overnight at Garron Pill. The Prince's Trust, who provided all the equipment necessary for the expedition, accompanied them with the youth workers at a safe distance. The Youth Centre also gained the funding for this type of expedition through Communities First in Pembroke Dock.

The last part of the summer holiday activity at Tenby Youth Centre saw a 12-hour pool competition which was organised by two senior members of Tenby and was won by Rhys Sayell, who also raised £106 through sponsorship monies and was presented with a prize of a free seat on the Alton Towers trip in October from Tenby Youth Club (value £40).

Tenby Youth Club will start back on the Monday, September 26.
