Sir, Summer madness is once again with the residents of Tenby. Those residents within the town walls claim 'victory' in the continuing struggle against pedestrianisation of the town by negotiating relaxations for registered vehicles and harbour users together with free parking in the multi-storey car park. Those outside the walls now have numerous streets designated as resident only parking. Do they ever stop to think how they will obtain the services of craftsmen such as plumbers, carpenters and electricians to attend to planned jobs, let alone an emergency situation. The way that parking restrictions are spreading, it will not be long before a large proportion of the town will be a 'no go' area with little hope of any craftsman being able to ply his trade lawfully. Within the town walls, if one could park, a large job during the summer months would have to commence at six o'clock or earlier to have any hope of leaving before the 11 am curfew. This would not only inconvenience the customer, but also incur premium rate costs for work at that time of the day. The same would be true if work started after 5 pm. Is it not time that we recognised that Tenby is a vibrant holiday town that requires constant attention to its properties and infrastructure, and make sensible provision for registered craftsmen to go about their business.
Phil Whittaker (plumber),
