On Tuesday, past president of Saundersfoot Rotary Club, Peter Williams, organised a sandcastle building competition on Saundersfoot beach assisted by past presidents Lionel Allen, Mac Walapu and Rotarian Norman Goddard. It was a glorious day, the event attracted a great deal of enthusiasm and there can be few things more enjoyable than spending a sunny summer’s day building sandcastles in a free competition or watching the builders demonstrating their skills.

A good crowd of young children took part and their creative minds produced vastly different shaped castles. All competitors were congratulated on their high standard of detail, creating a very difficult task for the volunteer judges, Mr. and Mrs. Marston, retired school teachers on holiday from London.

After considerable deliberation, the winner was Zac White from Draycot and second place was shared between Sophie from Oakdale and Tom from London; all received a prize.

A local Saundersfoot businessman donated the prizes plus gifts for all participants and members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot are very grateful for his support and for the help given by the judges.

The beach photograph shows all the young people busy preparing their sandcastles ready for judging.
