Wondering how to occupy the family over the summer holidays? There's a whole host of activities and events planned at the National Trust's Colby Woodland Garden, near Amroth - from Family Fun Days to open-air evening theatre - to keep everyone amused and entertained. Every Thursday from July 19 to August 30, whatever the weather, there's a Children's Fun Day. Accompanied children can drop in between 11 am and 3 pm and take part in different activities each week, ranging from woodland trails to art and crafts. Bring a camera and enter Colby Gallery's photo competition too. There are two categories: under 16 and adults, so there's a chance for all ages to win great prizes. Why not pack a picnic and make a day of it? The gardens are open from 10 am to 5 pm and members of the National Trust and under fives are admitted free. There's a small charge to take part in the Fun Day activities. On Friday, July 27, at 6 pm, evening theatre returns to Colby, when Anvil Productions will be performing Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew in the meadow. Bring a chair or blanket, relax in the fantastic surroundings and enjoy a spot of culture. Hot rolls and refreshments will be available before the performance and during the interval. The August Bank Holiday weekend sees Anvil back on Friday, August 24, at 6 pm, with a new family show: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table - a magical tale of knights in shining armour, heroic deeds and dragons - and on Monday, August 27, there's a Bank Holiday Fun Day featuring Trusty the Hedgehog, the National Trust's mascot for younger members. Head gardener Steve Whitehead said: "An exciting few weeks are ahead of us - we look forward particularly to the live theatre as so many visitors have requested its return and the meadow here at Colby really is the perfect setting." Tickets for both theatre productions are available in advance from the National Trust shop at Colby or by phoning 0790 049 8966.
