The Tenby Area Junior Windband held a very enjoyable summer concert at Tenby Infants School on Wednesday, June 30. The band played a variety of tunes, all of which were well received by the audience of friends and families. In between the band pieces were some very fine solo items from the band members. Awards were made to Edward Phillips and James Oakley, for musical contribution, to Elinor Brewer and Emily Tranter for most improved players, and to Danielle Harris and Jack Stacey for their excellent attendance records. It would be true to say, however, that all of the band deserved praise. All involved would like to extend their thanks to Mrs. Gill John and her staff at Tenby Infants School for making the concert possible. The band consists of primary school children who have reached at least grade one on their instrument, and is a great introduction to group playing and a taster for membership of the very successful county music groups. The band is conducted by Mrs. Judy Pyart, and supported by Dr. Stuart Evans and Mrs. Elaine Powell, all peripatetic teachers with the Pembrokeshire Music Service. At the end of the concert, Mrs. Pyart asked all the children who would be moving to secondary school in September to stand and leave the stage, to give the audience some idea of how few members would be left to carry on the good work. To the dismay of the audience, most of the band left the stage, leaving only a handful of children. The band will be short of players in all sections. If you are a primary school child who has passed grade one on a woodwind or brass instrument, please join the band - they need you! Parents or friends of children who you think might enjoy this experience, which enhances both playing confidence and technique greatly, please encourage them to join. Contact Mrs. Pyart (813965) for details.
