At the Coroners Court, held at Milford Haven yesterday (Thursday), a verdict of suicide was returned on a 73-year-old woman found dead at Tenby's North Beach on New Year's Day.

Investigating officer PC D. Allen stated that a Mr. Trevor Promack was walking his dog on the sands at about 7.30 am when he discovered the body - later identified as that of Delphine Anne Evans, of 94 Bronwydd Road, Carmarthen - about 50 yards below the high water mark.

He said that the body was sodden but fully clothed, wearing shoes and gloves and there were no signs of any violence having been used.

Further investigations had revealed that the deceased had suffered from depression for some 12 years following the death of her mother.

In her possession was a one-way train Carmarthen to Tenby ticket issued the previous day, and on the table at her home had been found a copy of her will and a request that there be no funeral service.

Mr. Michael Howells, Coroner for Pembrokeshire, gave the cause of death - in accordance with the pathologist's report - as drowning and returned a verdict of suicide.
