A TENBY Round Tabler and local driving instructor is currently stepping out on rather hotter sands than the local beaches - and all for a good cause as part of his latest charity challenge.
Suen Andrews, who last year completed a walk of the Great Wall of China, as one of a party of 53 fund-raisers, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care, set off for the Sahara last Friday to tackle the world's largest hot desert for his latest charity trek, for which he has raised a magnificent £1,250 for Cancer Research UK.
The charity is close to Suen's heart, as over the last three years he has lost his mother and grandparents to the illness, and he was able to present the donation to Tenby's Cancer Research UK branch on Tudor Square before he left.
Suen, who is also duty manager at Tenby's Heywood Mount Hotel, has been undertaking his own form of training to prepare himself for the desert heat.
"People have asked me how I've been getting ready to acclimatise for the heat out there. Well I've been turning the air conditioning off in the hotel's gym when I've been training, so apologises to those who've been in there and wondered why they were sweating more than usual!" joked Suen.
For all the kind sponsorship given to his cause, Suen would like to say a sincere and grateful thanks to - Lowless and Lowless Solicitors; Ashmole and Co accountants; Green Bower Garages in Haverfordwest; Tesco in Pembroke Dock, and all the good local people of Tenby who have sponsored him throughout his fund-raising.
Following his African expedition, 12 months down the line, Suen will be swapping one of the hottest places on earth for one of the highest, as he plans to embark on a further fund-raising challenge, this time to the top of Mount Everest, as the third and final part of his charity trilogy to raise funds for cancer aid organisations.
