The first Leukaemia Research Fund Charity Golf Day was held at Tenby Golf Club last Friday. The event was organised by Don Sigsworth, an amiable character who ran a number of similar days in his native Manchester before moving to Pembrokeshire a few years ago. £500 was raised for the charity. Don sadly lost his daughter Joanne to leukaemia in 1996 when she was just 22-years-old. The winning team mainly comprised members of the Morton family, who also hail from the north- west. They scored 84 points. Second was Steve Davies's Imperial Garage quartet with 82 pts. Hill Park Caravans beat Heywood's Butchers to third spot thanks to a better back nine after both teams scored 75 pts. In an emotional speech, Don thanked all those who had taken part, especially the team sponsors, and stated that he intends to hold a similar event again next year.
