The success of a new 'walking bus' initiative in Cosheston has been praised by transport chiefs. Approximately threequarters of the pupils at Cosheston VC School now take part in the half-mile walk to school. "The walking bus has been very successful in the 18 months since it was established," said Clr. Brian Hall, cabinet member for transportation and environment. "Not only is it a healthy and environmentally-friendly way of getting to school, but it's also very popular with the children," he said. The headteacher of Cosheston VC School, Mrs. Glenda Evans, was also full of praise for the walking bus, and thanked the parents and volunteers for organising and supervising it. "It started off as a weekly initiative, but it was so popular that it is now held twice a week," she said. "It's made the children more aware of how important it is to exercise and lead a healthy lifestyle, as well as improving their road safety awareness." • Similar schemes have also been established in Letterston, Johnston and more recently at Haverfordwest.
