Young cricketers from Sageston CP School will have a day to remember when they represent Pembrokeshire and South Wales today (Friday) in the national finals of the Asda Kwik Under 11 Cricket competition at the famous Carnegie Cricket Ground, Headingley, Leeds. The youngsters in Year 6 won the Pembrokeshire finals and travelled to the St. Helens ground in Swansea to play in the South Wales Asda Kwik Cricket Finals on Tuesday, July 10. They were representing Pembrokeshire and played a total of five games, winning them all to earn the right to represent South Wales at Headingley's international cricket arena. On their way to becoming South Wales Champions, they beat Undy School, Llansannor School, Ysgol John Griffith, Abertillery School and the final was played against last year's South Wales winners from Maesteg. Speaking to Observer Sport, head teacher Mrs. Joan Morris said: "We are very proud of the cricket team to get as far as they have got. The have the right spirit of sportsmanship and they will benefit from the whole experience of being involved. "We have been busy arranging sponsorship and Sageston CP School would like to thank all of the very generous sponsors who have made the trip to Leeds possible. "A win will be a bonus, but it is the taking part which counts."
