A sub-committee is to be set up by Tenby Town Council to push forward a project to introduce names of fallen soldiers from the town missing off the town’s cenotaph.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Mr. Andrew Davies told members that Clr. John Griffiths had been continuing with his research and hard work into obtaining a list of names to be introduced to the Tenby war memorial, to coincide with the ‘Battle’s End’ tribute to take place on November 11, 2018, to mark ‘100 years of remembrance’ to commemorate and remember the end of the First World War.

Plans are also being drawn up for a chain of 1,000 beacons to be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK overseas territories at 7 pm that night.

“We need to set up a sub-committee and look at the list of names Clr. Griffiths has researched, and move forward with the project. We will also have to approach Pembrokeshire County Council as custodians of the war memorial, as listed building consent will be required,” explained Mr. Davies, also suggesting that the Royal British Legion, along with local forces cadets and churches be involved with the beacon lighting ceremony.
