THREE students from Pembrokeshire College will be able to include a seafaring role on their CVs after taking to the waves with the Haven's water ranger this summer.
The three - on a BSc course in Coastal Zone and Marine Environmental Studies - will be 'crew' for water ranger Matthew Cloud who is jointly employed by the Milford Haven Port Authority and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
Students Katy Cox, Jon Edwards and Dawn Wilde - who have just completed year one of their three-year course - will each work for five weeks alongside Matthew, on the red-coloured rigid hulled inflatable craft which is berthed at Neyland Marina.
As well as crewing the RIB, they will help water users by offering advice and information on Port Authority by-laws, and will carry out wildlife surveys in the Haven and its upper reaches in the Daugleddau. All the crew members have Royal Yacht Association qualifications and Dawn and Katy are also sub aqua divers.
This is Matthew's second summer season at the helm of the distinctive RIB. In addition to his water-based duties, he has a key education role, liaising with groups such as yacht and boat clubs and angling clubs and also visiting schools to spread the message of conservation and the environmental importance of the waterway.
