Students have done a lot of the spade work to open up two overgrown rights of way on the northern slopes of the Preseli Hills. Paths at Pensarn, Crosswell, totalling 1.5 km, were cleared by Pembrokeshire College students working with National Park ranger Richard Vaughan and the Park authority's north footpath wardens' team. The students are on a NVQ environmental conservation course. Said Richard: "The students started the whole thing off and put in three days of hard graft. They cleared a large amount of vegetation, put in two stiles and erected a wooden bridge over a stream. The wardens' team of Craig Mabe, Ioan Evans and Geoff Severn finished off the project with fencing and waymarking and created a stepping stone causeway." The paths lead on to the Preseli hills (which is also open access land) and also link nicely to other maintained paths, all of which provide fine views of the area. The work was carried out in conjunction with the Tir Gofal scheme and with the backing of two local landowners.
