Golf Academy students at Pembrokeshire College described their winter training in Florida as "awesome."

They made good use of the fantastic facilities at the Faldo Golf Institute and even met their patron - six times major winner, Nick Faldo - who called in to have a chat with them about how they are progressing.

The winter's training in Florida was timed to put the finishing touches to their game before the start of the competitive season.

This involved eight-hour days for the young golfing enthusiasts using all the practice facilities and greens.

"The students picked up lots of tips from senior golf players at the Faldo Institute and with the unlimited practise balls they were able to improve all of their golf skills before teeing off on the 6,810 yards 18-hole course at Hawk's Landing at the end of the week," commented tutor Graham Aveyard.

The academy golfers also had to cope with hazards not seen in Pembrokeshire, such as alligators in three of the water features.

Captain of the Golf Academy Mikey Harries said: "It was great to meet Nick who was very interested in what we were doing and we are very grateful for him allowing us to use his fantastic facilities at such an affordable rate."
