More than 40 young people from Greenhill School in Tenby and Pembroke School are to be taught how to surf. The pupils are taking part in a six-week 'learn to surf' programme off the Pembrokeshire coast at Tenby, Manorbier or Freshwater West, starting in June. The course has been organised by Greenhill and Pembroke schools, Sport Pembrokeshire (the sport development division of Pembrokeshire County Council) and the International Surf Centre. Professional tuition will be provided by the International Surf Centre instructors, who are fully qualified BSA coaches. During the six weeks, the young people will be taken through the 'Young Athletes Junior Surf Scheme' which has been designed and developed by The British Surfing Association.  There will be fun competitions as well as fitness, skill development, and safety and ocean awareness. The scheme has been co-ordinated by Wyndham Williams (5x60 officer for Tenby and Pembroke Schools) and Dean Gough, of International Surf Centre, with support from main sponsors Billabong, as well as Saltrock, Reef and O'Neill. If any other Pembrokeshire schools are interested in their pupils taking part in this scheme, please contact Wyndham Williams on 01437 776189, or Dean Gough on 01646 621571.
