THREE university students, one of them with strong local connections, are currently taking part in a 300-mile charity cycle ride.
Among them is Antony Gray, son of former New Hedges man Richard Gray and his wife Sue, of Saundersfoot, and grandson of Paul and Pat Gray, who still live in New Hedges.
Nineteen-year-old Antony has been joined on the ride from his home in Richmond, London, to Saundersfoot, by his cousin Ryan Thomas, of Clydach, and school friend Ben Whitley, of Chiswick.
The trio set off on the Sustrans route 4 earlier this week and expect to take five days to complete the journey, carrying everything they need with them, including camping gear and food for the day.
They are due to arrive at the Captains Table, Saundersfoot, at around 5 pm tomorrow (Saturday), when they will be met by a welcoming party, with landlord Ian Griffiths 'putting on a bit of bash' to mark the end of the ride.
While in Saundersfoot, it is hoped to collect further funds for the benefiting charity, Cancer Research UK.
The boys have set themselves the challenge of raising £700 for the cause and are already more than halfway there. If you would like to help by giving a donation, the link is https://www.justgiving.com/racgray">https://www.justgiving.com/racgray
Incidentally, last Thursday, the trio warmed up for the event by taking part in another charity ride to Southwold for the 'Tour de Latitude' and bagged a further 125 miles in one day. That means that together with the 320-mile trip to Saundersfoot, they will have cycled 445 miles, coast to coast across the UK, in little more than a week.
