Over 40 sixth form and college students have given their views on the future of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. They took part in a very successful one-day conference, entitled 'Shaping the future of the National Park', held at the Park Authority's Llanion Park, Pembroke Dock, headquarters. The students were from Greenhill, Tenby, Pembroke School, Ysgol Bro Gwaun, Fishguard, and Pembrokeshire College. Steve Drinkwater, the National Park Authority's education officer, said the response from the students had been very positive and enlightening. "One of the main purposes of the conference was to encourage young people to become involved in the preparation of the National Park Management Plan and the Local Development Plan - very important documents for the authority and for the future of the National Park. "It is important for young people to be part of the process as it is about their future. It was very interesting for us to find out what the main issues are for them and what they were expecting of us. "We shall certainly think about running other conferences for students on a variety of topics." The students were welcomed by Park Authority chief executive Nic Wheeler. The programme included a tour of the offices - a former Army headquarters - which have been renovated using many green principles.
