Undergraduate students from Pembrokeshire are being offered the chance to apply for a scholarship and summer work placement at the UK’s largest energy port.

The Port of Milford Haven has launched its annual scholarship scheme, which provides four students with awards of £1,500. The initiative is now in its 14th year and during that time has supported over 60 people with their studies. A wide range of placements are available in areas such as the marina, fish docks, engineering and marketing.

One of the winners of the 2015-16 Scholarship Scheme, Guto Harries, has just completed his placement and said: “The experience was absolutely invaluable, both in terms of providing an insight into a professional working environment, working on real projects in real situations, and self-development with the opportunity to apply previous learned knowledge.”

Chief executive at the Port of Milford Haven, Alec Don, said: “I would encourage all undergraduate students from Pembrokeshire to apply to our scholarship scheme as it will give them a unique insight into the workings of the UK’s largest port and help them financially whilst at university.”

To be eligible, students must be on a degree course at a British university and have completed the majority of their secondary education in Pembrokeshire. Applications must be completed online by Friday, November 11, at www.mhpa.co.uk/scholarships
