A LOCAL student has been chosen to compete in the Culinary World Cup being held in Luxembourg.
Jamie Bessant, a full-time NVQ confectionery and patissiere student at Neath Port Talbot College, will be a member of the 23-strong Welsh National Culinary Team taking part in this week's event.
Twenty-year-old Jamie will be concentrating on the pastry aspect of the competition, which began yesterday (Thursday) and runs until next Thursday.
After starting his career at the Fountain Head Inn at Pentlepoir, he decided to enter full-time education to gain further qualifications.
"I am delighted to be chosen for this prestigious event," said Jamie.
"To represent my country at this level is the fulfilment of one of my ambitions."
