Local councillors hope that talks with Pembrokeshire County Council's streetcare manager will see restrictions put on street trading in Tenby's iconic Five Arches.
The county council has recently reviewed arrangements for street trading, putting in place a revised policy to manage it, but members of Tenby Town Council are still unhappy that many traders are blocking the historic Five Arches area by setting up stalls in the vicinity.
"They were blocking the area again over the weekend. I'd still like to know if the police can look into moving the traders on, on the basis that they are causing an obstruction, which could be dangerous if the emergency services needed to get through that route," remarked Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council.
The town clerk told members that, although the county council's streetcare manager Marc Owen had included the Five Arches as a designated area for trading, he hoped that they could make a request to Mr. Owen when he meets with town councillors and the Chamber of Trade next week, to agree to take the area out of any trading zone.
"It's not just the traders that are causing an obstruction, but the queues that form to use them," added Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
