A rescue helicopter from Chivenor was in action in the Milford area last Wednesday evening, when a report was received by the Operations Room at Milford Haven Coastguard, stating that two children were stuck on a small island in the middle of the Cleddau River running through the West Pill Nature Reserve, Neyland. The Angle RNLI inshore lifeboat and Dale coastguard rescue team were also called out, together with the rescue helicopter. On arrival at the scene, no one could initially reach the two boys, aged eight and 12, because of the mud, low water and overhanging trees. The winchman from the helicopter, however, managed to find a way through the dense trees and was lowered down to the frightened boys, who had by now climbed trees. Once with the two, the winchman managed to find a way for the inshore lifeboat to reach them and with the rising tide, all three of them were taken aboard the lifeboat and taken to safety at Neyland Quay.
