A new Pembrokeshire Education Authority initiative designed to enhance children's reading skills was launched at Tenby's Heywood Lane Infants School this week.

Grant funded by the Basic Skills Agency, 'Story Sack' helps to promote interactive learning between a child and parents up to and including Key Stage 1. This is done through specially made sacks containing not just a story book but loads of associated items, like characters from the story, scenes, artefacts, and related games and jigsaws.

The project has so far been launched in 10 schools in the county, including Tenby Infants.

Parents joined in the project, showing off their sewing skills to help make the sacks and the school would like to thank all those parents who have spent so many hours of time to make the 35 superb sacks so far.

Children of Dosbarth Cymreag are pictured here with some of the Story Sacks, some of the parents involved in the project, class teacher Mrs. Margaret Walters and advisory teacher Mrs. Catrin Griffiths.
