aLike many other parts of the country, Pembrokeshire has been counting the cost this week of some of the worst storms experienced for many years.

Exceptionally high spring tides backed by gale force winds has led to many coastal communities being left devastated by the impact of the ferocious elements.

Among them the neighbouring villages of Amroth and Wisemans Bridge which seemed to bear the brunt of the New Year tempest.

At Amroth, the force of the towering tide was so great that the sea defences were breached and part of the road washed away.

Just a few miles away, the road at Wisemans Bridge was literally littered with stones and boulders, and a vehicle which became stuck on the debris was washed into the sea.

Elsewhere around the coast, sightseers flocked to the likes of Saundersfoot and Tenby where huge waves pounded the beaches and cliffs sending spray towering hundreds of feet into the air, while the tide in Tenby harbour was said to be the highest anyone could remember seeing.

Inland areas did not escape either, with many suffering from flooding problems and roads blocked by fallen trees.
