A nationwide supermarket giant could be opening in a South Pembrokeshire village. Tesco Express is understood to be interested in a site in Saundersfoot. Members of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park's development management committee will be considering redevelopment plans for the Saundersfoot Discount Store (Teggars Brewery), Brewery Terrace, at its meeting today (Friday). The application by Meldon Developments seeks approval for the redevelopment of this site to provide a retail unit on the ground floor and commercial units and three maisonettes on the first and second floors. "The building has been empty for several months and this application seeks approval for a demolition of the existing structure and its replacement with a new building comprising three storeys with a retail unit on the ground floor which is likely to be a Tesco Express store, with commercial offices and three maisonettes on the two storeys above," says the officer's appraisal which will go before the committee today. Two letters of objection have been received by the Park authority. However, the committee is being recommended to approve the application subject to conditions relating to the external finishes, levels, the requirment for a method statement prior to the commencement of work, landscaping, highway conditions (including delivery times and routes for the retail store), sewage and the removal of permitted development rights for the installation of windows on the southern elevation.
