Local primary school children recently enjoyed a sports training day and received a £500 donation, thanks to the Tesco superstore in Pembroke Dock. The store, which launched its new extension on March 10, provided Pembroke Dock Community Primary School with professional coaches to host an athletics training session with pupils. The school also received a £500 donation, which will go towards developing sports activities. As part of the training session, the Year 3 pupils were split into three groups of 20, each receiving an hour's training. Peter Freeman, who is a level three coach, and his son Matthew, taught the students javelin, obstacle racing and other fun athletics games. Headteacher Anthea Finn added: "The children really enjoyed the training session. We would like to thank Tesco for providing us with the sports training session and this generous donation. The money will be well spent and will greatly improve our facilities." Tesco store manager Rick Lawrence said: "We are very happy to donate £500 to Pembroke Dock Community Primary School and provide them with the sports training session as it is really worthwhile and anything which helps young people stay fit and healthy is great." The Tesco superstore, which re-launched in March on London Road, Bierspool, has already made a £500 donation to the Pembroke Dock Young Firefighter Association, who came along to open the new store on launch day.
