Staff at the SPAR Store (Hancock's) in Saundersfoot are calling on locals to head down to its shop on High Street for an extra special 'Stop for tea' party on Wednesday, November 20, to help raise vital funds for the ChildLine Schools Service, a ground breaking service provided by the NSPCC.

The event is part of a national week of 'Stop for tea' activities - taking place between November 16 an 24 - hosted by SPAR stores across the UK and Northern Ireland.

Over 165 million cups of tea are drunk in the UK every day and SPAR is hoping the 'Stop for tea' week will see thousands of people enjoying one of their cups in participating stores.

For a small donation, shoppers at the Saundersfoot SPAR will be able to enjoy a cuppa whilst browsing the aisles for special offers and participate in a range of fundraising activities, including a 'bake-off' competition to help raise even more money for the ChildLine Schools Service.

All the money raised from 'Stop for tea' week will go towards the ChildLine Schools Service, which has been set up to give primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse and to seek help sooner.

By 2016, trained volunteers from the ChildLine Schools Service will have reached 1.7m children through 25,000 primary school visits in the UK. Through assemblies and smaller classroom based workshops they will help children to understand abuse, give them the confidence to talk about it and to know who to turn to if they need help. With your support, trained volunteers will be able to visit every primary school in every community in the UK and will continue to visit each of these schools every two years.

NSPCC corporate account manager, Charly Meehan, said: "Since our partnership began in 2006, SPAR has raised over £3.5 million for the NSPCC and ChildLine. 'Stop for tea' is a fantastic way to raise even more money for a great cause. The events will bring staff, friends, neighbours and the local community together, and will hopefully help us achieve our £500k fundraising target!"

SPAR charity controller, Patricia Wheway, said: "SPAR is proud to support the ChildLine Schools Service. It will educate and empower children in the local communities around our stores and give them the awareness and confidence they need to identify who they can turn to if they experience abuse. This will be invaluable to so many children."
