Tenby Museum and Art Gallery was treated to a truly wonderful evening last Friday. Prof Geoffrey Wainwright gave a most interesting lecture to a capacity audience, exploring the connection of the Preseli Blue stones and Stonehenge. The latest explorations revealed some new information about the age of the stones, the period in which they were used and the connection with holy wells in the Preseli Hills. Many of the holy wells in the Preselis are marked or lined with blue-stone (a kind of Dolomite) and each one was thought to have specific healing properties. The ones at Stonehenge have been found to cover burials of people with injuries or illnesses, posing the question 'Were there healing ceremonies associated with both Preseli and Stonehenge'? Another interesting fact was a Roman coin found underneath one of the bluestones indicating that the site was still being used for some sort of ceremonial purpose at that time. After a prolonged Q and A session, a happy audience left looking forward to the next talk. Unfortunately, the scheduled talk for July 27, by David Button, has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. The next event is 'Gadaffi TV!' given by our president, the TV and radio presenter, Jamie Owen. This will be on August 1. As usual, seats are limited and booking is advisable. Tel 01834 842809.
