There is still time for young instrumentalists under the age of 19 to enter this year's competition which will take place on Saturday, November 13, at Ysgol Preseli, Crymych.
The competition is friendly, relaxed and past competitors have said that it has helped them tremendously with their musical career. The professional adjudication is of tremendous value to musicians.
The winner will receive the prestigious Joan Bowen Tasker Memorial prize.
In addition to a cash prize, the winner will be given performing opportunities, have music especially composed for them and receive a generous bursary to Aberystwyth Musicfest.
The current holder of Young Musician of Dyfed is harpist Anne Denholm, of Carmarthen, who is now at Cambridge studying music. Since winning, Anne performed at St. Davids Cathedral festival where she performed a piece specially written for her by the winner of Young Composer of Dyfed, which she has taken into her repertoire and played at a recent concert in Tenby, given by past winners.
Anne said: "The Young Musician of Dyfed competition has been one of the most forming influences on my performance skills, from my earliest experiences through to winning the title in 2009.
"The event not only nurtures musical development, but also other elements essential to musical life, including stage presentation and accepting and applying constructive advice.
"It has been a privilege to receive comments from eminent members of the musical world and to enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the event. Without doubt, an opportunity not to be missed," she added.
Application forms and copies of regulations in English and Welsh have been sent out widely to young people through schools and music teachers.
The closing date for applications for Young Musician of Dyfed is tomorrow (Saturday).
