Tenby councillors have once again warned that if more public toilet facilities are not provided in the town, then tourists will suffer this summer. Pembrokeshire County Council have indicated that the toilets on South Parade will soon close, leaving a major lack of facilities within the town. "It's becoming a serious worry, as if you're in the town centre and in need of the toilet, then the multi-storey facilities are a long way off," said Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council. However, town clerk Mr. Andrew Davies informed members that he had spoken to a county council representative and he was not very "optimistic" that other facilities would be provided once the South Parade toilets were closed, as they felt public toilet provision was sufficient. "I think that the county council need to look at the Market toilets again and revamp those and sort out any health and safety issues," said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown. "If they were properly looked after in the first place, then they wouldn't have been closed down," she added. "It's not up to cafés in the town to provide toilets for the public, it's the county council's responsibility," remarked Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, while Clr. Trevor Hallett believed that as county council were pushing to promote tourism in the town, it was their duty to make sure enough facilities were available. It was agreed that the county council should be contacted again over the matter.
