A stormy night of strong winds and gale-lashed seas ruled out all possibility of Saturday's trip to Caldey Island for the Steps2Health group (writes B.S.).

Nevertheless, 16 brave walkers met in Castle Square before 10 am on Saturday morning to join walks leaders Barbara Morris, Janice Tooth and also Andrea Williams who leads the Wednesday group.

Fortunately, the rain cleared away and a very low tide gave the group the opportunity to enjoy a walk is usually well out of bounds.

After walking across the North Beach and back, it was then new territory for some of the group who had not previously walked right round the Castle Hill on the sand under the old and new lifeboat slips. It gives an utterly different perspective on the Castle Hill when viewed from underneath. The lifeboat houses, both old and new, appear so enormous and coves and rockpools are a normally hidden delight.

Convenient to hand was the Dennis Cafe where the group could continue to enjoy the view over refreshments.

It is hoped the walk on Caldey will now take place on July 27.

Tomorrow (Saturday), it is planned to walk from Penally to Tenby. First 349 Silcox leaves Tenby 10.05. Drivers meet Penally station car park for 10.30.
