Saturday's Steps2Health walk might well be described as a celebration of St. David's Day as daffodils lined the sunshine route and the prospect of Welsh cakes at the end of the walk made it an even more enjoyable occasion (writes B.S.)
Normally the route from New Hedges to Saundersfoot would have left the main road at Saundersfoot Bay Caravan Park to access the hidden network of paths leading to Glen Beach, but as Erica Ward had only two other walks leaders, Val Coates-Rees and Brian Ward, to hand, all 30 walkers continued down Broadfield Hill, before turning right to Swallowtree with its glorious views across the bay.
Continuing along somewhat muddy paths, the group reached Glen Beach, where the low tide enabled them to reach the village via the harbour.
Saundersfoot Bowling Club provided an ideal venue to round off the morning with a plentiful supply of tea, coffee and those all important Welsh cakes. There were also tempting homemade cakes for sale and a great number of raffle prizes.
The walkers took this opportunity to sign a congratulations card for the Golden Wedding of popular couple Janice and Brian Tooth, wishing them every happiness.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the minibus leaves at 10 am for the Stackpole-to-Bosherston walk. To find out if there are any vacant seats, ring Val on 01834 843951. Drivers meet approx. 10.30 at Stackpole Court (not the Stackpole Centre). Coffee will be at Ye Olde Worlde Cafe, Bosherston.
