Spirits were high as a packed minibus, driven by Val Coates-Rees, negotiated some narrow winding country lanes on the way to Llys-y-Fran on Saturday (writes B.S.).
The Steps2Health walkers were undaunted by the weather forecasters who had been happily predicting very heavy rain to accompany the cold front that had made its way down from Iceland.
And their optimism did prove them right as they were all safely home before the heavy rain of the afternoon. Many more walkers were waiting in the car park where walks leader Lyn Evans outlined the route. We were not attempting the full circuit right round the reservoir, but would walk approximately two miles before turning back. Also on hand were walks leaders Barbara, Val, Margaret, Penny and Janice.
Conditions were good, with only the occasional patch of mud, and the profusion of wild flowers brought vivid colour to our pathway, with yellow buttercups and the deep pink of foxgloves and campion.
It was at the end of the walk that the first raindrops began to fall, but the views from the large windows of the cafe were still breathtakingly lovely even on a dull day.
Tomorrow (Saturday) there is a five-mile walk for fit walkers only, as well as a shorter walk, and it is emphasised that strong, suitable walking shoes will need to be worn for the sake of safety.
The Silcox 351 leaves Tenby 10 am. Drivers park at Marros Church car park for both walks. The longer walk will be from Marros to Pendine. Drivers wishing to do the shorter walk from Morfa Bychan to Pendine should board the 351 bus at Marros (approx 10.45 am) and these walkers will then alight at The Green Man.
Hopefully we will all meet up at Pendine for refreshments. Buses return from Pendine at one and two o'clock.
