The weather was certainly not conducive on Saturday for Steps2Health walkers to admire the coastal scenery from the clifftops of Giltar (writes B.S.).

Such a walk might well have resulted in headlines proclaiming that some of the more lightweight walkers had last been seen disappearing over the top of Caldey!

Walks leader Val Coates-Rees was not prepared to take the risk and, after a couple of hundred yards of struggling along Penally by-pass against a rain laden force four wind, she took the decision to alter the route for the 24 or so walkers who had braved the adverse conditions.

And so, the stalwarts, together with walks leaders Barbara, Margaret, Janice and Gill, made their way instead to the beach where, in sunnier conditions, the wind now at their backs buffeted them along at a quicker pace to the gap and then either via the golf links or railway path back to Penally village.

By now, feeling very warm in their waterproofs, the walkers were more than ready for their coffee at the Cross Inn.

Tomorrow (Saturday), meet outside the now closed Somerfield, 10.30 am, for a town walk.

The following Saturday (May 30), the walk will be from New Hedges to Saundersfoot. Silcox 352 leaves Tenby 10.30 am, meet approximately 10.45 at Village Hall.
