It was not surprising that there were a lot fewer walkers than usual on Saturday's Steps2Health walk (writes B.S.).

Rain carried along by a gusty wind did not make for ideal walking conditions, but the dozen or so stalwarts, nevertheless enjoyed a sociable if slightly shorter walk across the golf links path and through Kiln Park, led by Barbara Morris.

Then it was into the Scout and Guide Hall in Warren Street where a coffee morning was in full swing.

We were efficiently waited on by guides looking very smart in uniforms so much more modern and elegant than the ones which some of the walkers remember wearing!

We also enjoyed the songs so charmingly sung by some of the Rainbows.

This was also a time for perusing the programme of walks we were given for the next few months. As always, it is a good mix of country, coastal and town walks, including old favourites like Caldey Island and new territory up at Llysyfran.

Tomorrow (Saturday), we hope for drier weather for some woodland walking. Drivers meet Blackpool Mill approximately 11 am. To find out if there are any vacancies on the minibus leaving from outside the now-closed Somerfield store at 10.30 am, ring Val Coates-Rees on 843951.
