The saying that 'morning crowns the day' proved very true for Saturday's Steps2Health walkers (writes B.S.).

Fortunately the rain clouds did not gather full force until late afternoon and so the large group were able to enjoy their hour in bright and breezy weather.

All set off across Kiln Park, with the faster group following walks leader Margaret Lewis out to Penally, while the rest, with walks leader Lyn Evans, made their way to the South Beach via Black Rock. The incoming tide prevented us continuing on to Castle Beach, so it was up to the Esplanade, where the Christmas trees are already blooming in some hotels!

The rendezvous for all the walkers was the coffee morning in Church House in aid of St. Mary's Flower Fund.

Everyone was pleased to hear of the success of the shorter Steps2Health walk now taking place every Wednesday starting 2 pm from the bus stop opposite the War Memorial. Altogether, 16 people had taken part in the first of these half-hour walks and enjoyed a sociable cup of tea afterwards in a local cafe.

Tomorrow (Saturday) there are two walks on offer. For fit walkers only, there is to be a five-mile challenging walk, with steep gradients, so please consider your level of fitness before taking part and do, of course, wear proper walking boots. The Silcox 359 bus leaves from outside Somerfield 10.05 for Marros.

There will also be a town walk alternative starting from outside Somerfield at 10.30 am.
