Saturday dawned sunny and cloudless. The Hallowe'en witches of the night before had surely swept away, with their broomsticks, all the dark shadows to ensure a bright cheerful morning for the Steps2Health walk (writes B.S.).
Perhaps it was the weather that brought forth over 40 walkers who came by mini bus and car to assemble at Neyland Marina.
The group was evenly divided into those opting to follow walks leader Margaret Lewis on the longer route and the slower walkers who would be led by walks leader Barbara Morris.
The keen wind whipping along the waterway encouraged the walkers to quicken their pace along this beautiful estuary path. Her autumn was at its most beautiful and colourful.
The faster group was soon out of sight, but we could hear them calling to us from across the river, even though they were hidden by trees.
But we convinced ourselves we were more than happy to take it more slowly to appreciate our very own 'Autumn Watch' with so much wildlife and water fowl to see.
It also has to be admitted that when we turned round after half-an-hour's walking, the last were first in at the popular marina cafe!
As appetites had been sharpened, many of the walkers enjoyed a good lunch before the return journey. Some brave souls even sat outside in the sun.
Tomorrow (Saturday) meet outside Somerfield at 10.30 am for a local walk.
