A walk through muddy woodland with autumn leaves being blown off the trees by driving rain may not be everyone's ideal way of spending a Saturday morning (writes B.S.).

But walking with the Steps2Health group turns what could be a depressing experience into a cheerful and sociable outing.

Once aboard the minibus driven by Val Coates Rees, the weather was forgotten amidst the chatter. Destination was Minwear Woods, where we were joined by more walkers.

Waterproofs and stout shoes were the order of the day. A walk back along the narrow road brought us to Blackpool Mill, now closed for the winter season.

Half-a-dozen walks leaders were on hand to keep a watchful eye on walkers as we crossed the bridge to walk in the direction of Slebech Hall. The path was very muddy in parts and even the quicker paced walkers did not continue all the way to the ancient church at Slebech.

Feeling quite righteous with a good hour's exercise behind us on such a day, it was then on to Narberth for an hour's break for coffee or lunch and even some shopping.

Tomorrow (Saturday) meet outside Somerfield at 10.30 am for a town walk.
