Saturday's Steps2Health walk had us stepping into a wonderland of floral beauty, colourful woodland, picturesque streams, sweet-smelling meadows, the list of delights that describe Colby Woodland Gardens is endless (writes B.S.). Most of the walkers travelled by Silcox bus to Amroth for the start of the walk, but our volunteer walks leader, Margaret Lewis, arrived on foot from Saundersfoot. For those who had not previously walked this route, it was quite a revelation. The views back over Amroth as we climbed the hill from the car park were slightly obscured by a sea mist, but that was forgotten as we wended our way along the woodland path. At the little footbridge, we turned left so as to circle the woodland area and enjoy the views across the meadow and to the imposing structure of Colby Lodge. Margaret also included a little detour over and around the small bridges that span the picturesque stream meandering round the shrubs and bushes. Within about 40 minutes, we reached the old stableblock now so attractive with tearooms and gallery. No mist here as we sat out in the sunshine to enjoy refreshments in this tranquil spot. There was time to browse round the walled garden so full of interest and beauty before returning to Amroth. Everyone was pleased to hear the previous week's coffee morning in Church House had raised £214. Tomorrow (Saturday), the walk will start at the RAOB car park in Kilgetty. The Silcox bus leaves Somerfield at 10.30 am. From Kilgetty, the walk will be to Saundersfoot via Coppet Hall. Return from Saundersfoot by public transport.
