We could not have had a better mix of ingredients for Saturday's Steps2Health walk (writes B.S.). Sunlight filtered through autumn leaves to dapple our pathway, a heron posed on a conveniently placed branch in the water and a sense of history pervaded the atmosphere.
Volunteer trained walks leader, Margaret Lewis, started the walk at the site of the former Stackpole Mansion where we had alighted from the minibus driven by Val Coates.
Here the legacy of the Cawdor family, who once held sway in these parts, is still very much apparent. But there is only pictorial evidence of the once imposing mansion and these images are on view in the former double walled game larder.
Beginning with the stunning view of the eight-arch bridge, the path then ran alongside the eastern arm of the famous lilyponds to bring us within sight of the sea at Broadhaven Beach.
So enjoyable was the walk that most of us decided to continue on across the Grassy Bridge and up the far side of the ponds, while others made their way back to the minibus at the Stackpole Centre.
But for all, the rendezvous was to enjoy refreshments in the tranquil setting of the garden at Bosherston's Olde Worlde Cafe. This will be an outing long remembered for the peaceful ambience that makes this such a timeless part of Pembrokeshire and, of course, the friendliness that makes these walks so special.
To join us for a local walk tomorrow (Saturday) just meet outside Somerfield for a 10.30 am start. No charge! Everyone welcome.
