A Pembrokeshire walking project has chalked up another success. The Pembroke Dock Steps2Health walking group marked its first anniversary recently with a presentation of badges and certificates following a celebratory walk. Twelve members of the group, led by trained volunteer leader Paul Morris, took an hour-long walk from Neyland Marina through the Westfield Pill nature reserve towards Johnston last weekend. On their return to the Marina, walkers were rewarded for their achievements over the year with badges and certificates. Iona Thomas and walk leader Peggy Childs were presented with silver badges for completing 25 walks, while Geraldine and Terry Goves, Eileen Halpin, Mary Meldrum, Ann Richards and Anlya Zahabian, were awarded bronze badges for 10 walks. The Pembrokeshire Steps2Health group is one of 22 local walking schemes in Wales originally started under the Welsh Assembly's Walking the Way to Health initiative. Funded by Health Challenge Pembrokeshire, the county-wide project now has 10 community health- walk groups including Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Monkton, Narberth, St. David's, Fishguard, Crymych, Newport, Llandissilio, and Tenby, as well as Pembroke Dock, with more planned over the coming months. Walks are suitable for all levels of fitness as everyone walks at their own pace and no previous experience is required. The Pembroke Dock Steps2Health group walks every Saturday morning and meets outside the library at 10.30 am. For more information about this or any other of the county's walking groups, contact Paul Morris on 07747 564042 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
