Tenby is to welcome a steam excursion later this month. The Pembroke Coast Express is one of a full range of day steam excursions organised by The Railway Touring Company. And on Sunday, May 27, it will be passing through Tenby en route to Pembroke Dock, steam-hauled by Great Western Railway locomotive No. 6024 King Edward 1. The excursion starts in Bristol Temple Meads in the early morning and is steam-hauled throughout to arrive in Tenby at 2 pm and onward to Pembroke Dock, arriving at 2.30 pm. The locomotive was built for the Great Western Railway in June 1930 and worked until withdrawal from British Railway in June 1962. The four-cylinder express passenger engine was acquired by Woodham's at Barry and was finally rescued from there in 1973. Since this time, it has been lovingly restored to mainline operating standards and is now active in running back on the original company's territory. The Railway Touring Company specialise in operating steam trips throughout the UK and worldwide. Tickets are still available for the Pembroke Coast Express, in standard and first class.
