MRCC Milford Haven were informed via a 999 call of a swimmer in difficulties by Goscar Rock, Tenby, shortly after 6.30 pm last Wednesday.
The town's RNLI inshore lifeboat was diverted from routine exercise to assist.
The swimmer, a local woman, was confirmed safe and well, having been startled by a jellyfish whilst training for the Ironman event, which was misinterpreted from the shore that she was in difficulty. No further coastguard assistance was required.
