On Friday, pupils, staff and parents supported Jeans for Genes Day at St. Oswald's VA School.

The school especially welcomed Mrs. Merrillee Phillips, a popular member of staff, who attended a special assembly prepared by the pupils in class two with her young daughter Mia.

Mia, who is now nearly eight-months-old, has cystic fibrosis.

Since Mia was born, Mrs. Phillips and husband Chris have raised an extraordinary amount of money for research into cystic fibrosis. 'Mia's Appeal' was well supported by all the children at St. Oswald's.

During the day, not only did they wear jeans, but sold delicious, mouth-watering cakes, which had been donated by generous parents and staff. Raffle prizes too had been donated, so many in fact, that a second raffle will be held before half-term. The extra proceeds will be added to the magnificent sum of £200 raised on Friday.

The pupils in class two told everyone why research is important for children who have problems like Mia's. Mrs. Phillips received the cheque for £200 from Mrs. Brown, the headteacher, and Mia received an additional gift for herself from Jasmine Seagroat.
