One of the summer’s most popular events at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby, will soon be taking place. ‘In Loving Memory’, our annual Festival of Posies, will be staged from Thursday, June 28 until Sunday, July 1 (writes G.D.).

Again this year almost 300 posies, window displays and stands will adorn the beautiful church building, each one dedicated to the memory of a loved one. The flowers are arranged by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. No two posies are the same and each is created with love. Window displays and stands are also lovingly produced by talented floral specialists, led by Anne, Rita and Delyth.

To begin this year’s festival we are thrilled to welcome The Griffon Choir, the members of which have generously agreed to stage one of their magnificent musical concerts in support of our appointed charities. The concert will be held in church at 8 pm on Thursday, June 28, and we anticipate a wonderfully melodic programme, under the leadership of their conductor and director, Melanie Walker.

We are again donating the proceeds of the festival to two very worthy causes. Diabetes UK is a very well-known charity, supporting sufferers and engaging in vital research in order to develop more effective treatments. SNAP Cymru may not be as familiar to some of us. This group supports children who suffer from a range of educational and behavioural special needs. Groups are run throughout Pembrokeshire, some of which are at Pembroke Dock (in Flying Start centres) and at Withybush Hospital.

The first event involving memorial posies was held back in 1998 as part of the St. Mary’s Flower Festival. It was the brainchild of Mrs. Ellen Jenkins, the wife of the Rector, Rev. David Jenkins. Now in retirement in Llandudno, we are always delighted to receive a visit from David and Ellen and look forward to welcoming them to this year’s event. This will be the 20th time the festival has been staged

We are delighted to report that we have already reached posy full capacity and that no more orders for posies are now being accepted.

Throughout the festival delicious refreshments will be available in Church House. Do come along and feast your eyes on our beautiful displays and, along the way, contribute to our charitable causes. Then enjoy home-made cakes and a cuppa to complete your visit!
