Members met in Church House on April 15. Jean introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Howard Lewis, who spoke on bees and honey. Mr. Lewis gave a fascinating talk on this vast subject, giving a potted history of bee-keeping to the finished product, the honey. Honey is used in cooking, as a food and has invaluable health and antiseptic properties and hence is used to heal wounds. Members learnt that local honey, which is not oven-treated, is good for bronchial conditions. Mr. Lewis recalled some amusing incidents when he was required to remove swarms from various locations. All members agreed that this had been a very enjoyable and informative evening. Mrs. Betty Gordon heartily thanked the speaker for his inspiring talk and for giving of his time. In the business meeting that followed, members were pleased to learn that they now have a new enrolling member, Miss Jean Peen. Jean has proved an extremely efficient secretary, and everyone wishes her well in her new role. Members are reminded that knitted balaclavas and mugs are still needed for the Mission to Seamen and Angel Pockets for Glangwili Hospital. They are also responsible for a hamper for AFIA, so an item of grocery would be appreciated. Jean concluded the meeting with prayers. The coffee morning held in Church House on Saturday for the Harriet Davies Trust raised £170. Grateful thanks go to all those who helped to make this a successful event.
